About Visa Ventures
Visa Ventures is Visa's global corporate investment arm. Visa says it has invested in and partnered with companies driving innovation in payments and commerce since 2007. Head of Visa Ventures David Rolf has said the unit reports to Visa's Chief Product and Strategy Officer and makes decisions through a lightweight, senior-led Investment Council. The setup keeps deals tied to Visa's product priorities. In October 2023, Visa launched a $100 million Generative AI Ventures Initiative, run by Visa Ventures, to back startups building generative AI for commerce, payments and fintech.
Rolf has said the unit typically invests from Series A to Series C and has recently done more seed deals in emerging areas such as agentic commerce and generative AI. Recent disclosed deals follow Visa's product agenda. It joined Airwallex's $300 million Series F in May 2025 as a strategic investor. It also invested in stablecoin infrastructure companies BVNK, HoneyCoin and Velocity, in agentic payments startup Nekuda at the seed stage, and in identity authorization platform Proof. Velocity's September 2026 Series A extension, which included Visa Ventures, shows the unit was still investing in late 2026.
Two things set it apart. The first is geographic reach: Rolf has said more than half of the portfolio is outside North America, including companies in Africa, Latin America and Southeast Asia. The second is commercial alignment. Several investments came with product work alongside Visa. Nekuda planned to integrate with Visa Intelligent Commerce, and Proof's investment followed a collaboration with Visa on verified identities for high-value payments. The unit pitches founders on Visa's global network, industry expertise and brand rather than capital alone. Regional corporate development and ventures leads cover CEMEA, Asia Pacific and Europe.
Investment Thesis
“Visa Ventures invests in companies whose technology is strategic to Visa's network, including ecommerce, payments infrastructure, B2B fintech and data software. Since 2023 it has also invested in generative AI companies that can change commerce, and Visa said it would assess whether those companies use AI responsibly. Rolf describes the approach as thesis-driven. Recent themes include stablecoin settlement and cross-border payments, agentic commerce (AI agents making authenticated payments) and digital identity for fraud prevention. Visa's pitch to founders goes beyond capital to include worldwide access to its network, expert support from Visa and its partners, and association with the Visa brand.”

Fund History
Visa Ventures invests from Visa's balance sheet and has not published a total fund size or a separate fund vehicle. The only dedicated commitment Visa has disclosed is the $100 million Generative AI Ventures Initiative of October 2023. Rolf said at the time it had no typical check size and that deals would skew smaller given how early the sector was. A search of SEC EDGAR full-text Form D filings for the Visa Ventures name returned no results. Disclosed 2025 and 2026 activity includes Airwallex, BVNK and Nekuda (May 2025), HoneyCoin (August 2025), Proof (November 2025) and Velocity (September 2026). Global Venturing noted in 2023 that the unit had not actively disclosed its deals, so the full portfolio is larger than what is public.
