Fund Structure
Investor Relations (IR)
The practice of managing communication and relationships between a fund or company and its investors.
IR encompasses regular reporting (quarterly updates, annual meetings), responding to LP inquiries, managing capital calls and distributions, and maintaining transparency about fund performance and portfolio companies. Strong IR builds trust and helps with future fundraising.
In Practice
The fund's IR team sent quarterly letters with portfolio updates, hosted an annual LP summit, and provided ad-hoc updates within 24 hours of any material portfolio event — generating a 90% re-up rate for Fund III.
Why It Matters
Good IR is the foundation of long-term LP relationships. LPs who feel informed and respected are far more likely to commit to subsequent funds.
VC Beast Take
IR is the most underrated function in venture capital. The firms that communicate well raise their next fund in weeks. The ones that don't spend months begging.
