About Truepill

Truepill was a business to business digital health company that ran pharmacy fulfillment, and later lab testing and telehealth, behind the brands of other companies. Telehealth and direct to consumer health businesses such as Hims and Hers, Nurx, GoodRx and LemonAID used its APIs to route prescriptions, which Truepill filled and shipped under their branding. It was founded in 2016 by Sid Viswanathan, who had sold the transcription service CardMunch to LinkedIn, and Umar Afridi, a pharmacist with more than a decade at retail chains including CVS and Fred Meyer. The company was based in San Mateo, California; its 2023 Form D lists Hayward, California.

Y Combinator was an early backer. In March 2019 it announced a Series A led by Initialized Capital, reported by TechCrunch at $10 million and by HIT Consultant at $13.4 million in total, with Y Combinator, Sound Ventures, Tuesday Capital, Foundation Capital, Index Ventures, Social Capital and BoxGroup participating. A Form D filed in December 2019 reports $23.3 million sold, consistent with the $25 million round TechCrunch later cited. In September 2020 it closed a $75 million Series C led by Oak HC/FT with Optum Ventures, TI Platform Management, Sound Ventures and Y Combinator; the matching Form D reports $75.5 million sold. In October 2021 it raised a $142 million Series D led by an undisclosed investor, with Initialized Capital and TI Platform Management, at a $1.6 billion valuation and $256 million raised in total. A further Form D filed in September 2023 reports $66.2 million sold toward a $107 million offering.

Truepill projected about $300 million of revenue for 2021 and said it had shipped nearly 10 million prescriptions. It then contracted: it halted ADHD medication prescriptions in April 2022 and cut staff in four rounds that year, including a 15% reduction in June and the closure of its UK team. In 2023 its parent company, Postmeds, disclosed a breach affecting more than 2.3 million people. In 2024 Truepill merged with home testing company LetsGetChecked, and the combined business launched as Fuze Health in May 2025, later adding the pharmacy Alto. Truepill's website now redirects to Fuze Health. Deal terms were not disclosed.

Truepill tracks the arc of pandemic era digital health. Initialized Capital and Y Combinator backed it before the Series A, and the valuation reached $1.6 billion five years after founding as telehealth demand surged. The 2021 price was set near the peak of that cycle; layoffs followed within a year and the company was combined with LetsGetChecked about three years later on undisclosed terms. For later stage investors such as the Series D participants, the outcome illustrates how a strategic merger can close out a unicorn without a public price, leaving returns unknown.
