About Chevron Technology Ventures
Chevron Technology Ventures (CTV) was launched by Chevron in 1999 to find and integrate externally developed technologies and business solutions from the startup ecosystem. Chevron describes the unit's role as bringing external innovation to Chevron and Chevron to external innovation. CTV is based in Houston and sits inside Chevron's technology organization, where its president also serves as vice president of innovation.
The unit invests through two Chevron-funded fund families. The Core Venture Fund backs technologies that can improve Chevron's existing business through operational enhancement, digitalization and lower carbon operations; Chevron says it has invested in more than 100 companies alongside more than 300 co-investors since 1999. The Future Energy Funds, started in 2018, back lower carbon technologies, and Chevron reports they have invested in more than 30 companies with more than 250 other investors. Future Energy Fund III, a $500 million fund launched in 2024, targets Series A, B and C companies. Sample holdings listed by Chevron include TAE Technologies, Zap Energy, Syzygy Plasmonics, Hydrogenious, Claroty, Seeq, Xage and Zededa.
CTV's distinguishing feature is how closely deals tie to Chevron operations. According to Global Corporate Venturing's 2026 Powerlist profile, about two-thirds of portfolio companies have run pilot projects with Chevron, and about half of those go on to become Chevron suppliers. CTV also runs the Catalyst Program for early-stage companies and works with incubators and accelerators including Greentown Labs, The Ion, The Cannon, Rice Alliance and Chevron Studio, and Chevron announced an Israel energy technology accelerator for early-stage startups in June 2026.
Investment Thesis
“Chevron frames the Core Venture Fund around technologies that can enhance its core business through operational enhancement, digitalization and lower carbon operations, with holdings spanning industrial cybersecurity, data analytics, robotics, drones and inspection tools. The Future Energy Funds follow a separate brief. Fund I focused on carbon capture, emerging mobility and energy storage, and Fund II on industrial decarbonization, emerging mobility, energy decentralization and the circular economy. Fund III widens the scope to novel lower carbon fuels, advanced materials and turning carbon into higher-value products. Across both families the stated aim is to access technology Chevron can use to operate more efficiently, lower the carbon intensity of its operations and launch new businesses.”

Fund History
CTV invests Chevron balance sheet capital through two fund families rather than raising money from outside limited partners. The Core Venture Fund series began in 1999, and Global Corporate Venturing reported in 2026 that the program was on its seventh fund with more than 100 portfolio companies. The Future Energy Fund series began in 2018; Funds I and II (2018 and 2021) carried a combined $400 million commitment, and Fund III launched in 2024 with $500 million, which Chevron called CTV's largest lower carbon fund to date. Global Corporate Venturing puts Chevron's total committed capital to low carbon technology venturing at nearly $1 billion and says CTV has invested in more than 140 companies since 1999. A full-text search of SEC EDGAR returned no Form D filings naming Chevron Technology Ventures.
