About Echo Health Ventures
Echo Health Ventures was announced on November 15, 2016, when Cambia Health Solutions and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (through its Mosaic Health Solutions unit) combined their existing investment programs into one strategic investment company. Rob Coppedge, who had been president of Cambia's strategic investment division, became chief executive. At launch the board included Mark Ganz, then president and CEO of Cambia, and Brad Wilson, then president and CEO of Blue Cross NC. Echo has since grown into the Echo Innovation Alliance, which its website lists as Cambia, Blue Cross NC, USAble Corporation and BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, with offices in Portland, Durham, Little Rock, Seattle and Boston.
Echo describes its work as hands-on, purpose-driven strategic venture capital and growth equity investing in companies that improve outcomes, reduce overall cost and improve quality of care. Its current portfolio page lists 33 companies, among them value-based primary care and care delivery businesses such as Aledade, Cityblock and DispatchHealth, specialty care models such as Thyme Care, Strive Health and Eleanor Health, and payer-side infrastructure such as Abacus Insights, Codoxo and Valenz Health. The launch announcement described the firm as stage-agnostic; the website does not publish check sizes.
What sets Echo apart is how closely it is wired into its health plan members. A dedicated Echo Health Advisors team is embedded inside the plans to broker relationships and remove barriers for portfolio companies, and a June 2026 Global Corporate Venturing profile reported that roughly 80 percent of portfolio companies have meaningful commercial engagement with at least one plan partner, with plan executives sitting on investment committees. Echo calls this a dual mandate of strategic impact and financial return. Its alumni list includes Livongo, Phreesia, Amwell, Kyruus Health and Springbuk.
Investment Thesis
“Echo states that it invests in companies that catalyze health care transformation to improve outcomes, reduce overall cost and improve quality for all people. It runs a dual mandate: each investment should deliver strategic impact for its health plan members and a financial return. At launch, Rob Coppedge framed the thesis around the consumer, saying the next great health care companies will personalize care, reduce costs and focus on the consumer rather than the enterprise. In practice the portfolio concentrates on value-based care delivery, specialty and behavioral care models, and the data and payment infrastructure health plans buy, areas where a plan can be both investor and customer.”

Fund History
Echo does not publish a fund size. SEC filings show one pooled vehicle: Echo Innovation Alliance LLC, a Delaware venture capital fund promoted by Echo Health Ventures LLC with a Durham, North Carolina business address. It filed its original Form D in January 2021 and has amended it every January since. The January 2026 amendment reports an indefinite offering size, a first sale on March 11, 2021, $207.4 million sold to date and three investors, which is consistent with a small number of health plan members funding the alliance. Earlier investing by Cambia and Blue Cross NC was done through their own programs before the 2016 combination.
