About Jan Lynn-Matern
Jan Lynn-Matern is the founder and general partner of Emerge, the early-stage fund also known as Emerge Education, which he started in 2014 as Europe's only edtech specialist fund. Emerge invests at pre-seed and seed stage at the intersection of learning and the future of work, and in November 2024 it closed an oversubscribed $73m second fund backed by more than 100 operators in the sector along with KfW Capital, Laerdal Invest, the Jacobs Foundation and Southern New Hampshire University. Under Lynn-Matern the firm has made more than 80 investments, including Yoto, Unibuddy, Colossyan, Edurino, Mattilda, Causaly, MyEdSpace, Popp and Solvely, a portfolio it values at over $2bn and says reaches more than 31 million learners. He says he founded Emerge to democratise access to opportunity by being a catalytic partner to early-stage founders.
