About Booz Allen Ventures

Booz Allen Ventures is the corporate venture capital arm of Booz Allen Hamilton, the McLean, Virginia technology and consulting contractor to the US government. It launched in 2022 with a $100 million commitment and grew out of the firm's tech scouting work, which Brian MacCarthy had led since 2015. In July 2025 Booz Allen tripled the commitment to $300 million and said it expected 20 to 25 new investments over the following five years, with reindustrialization and domestic manufacturing added to its core themes.

The unit backs early-stage companies based in the US and Five Eyes nations across five areas: artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, defense technology, deep tech and reindustrialization. Its portfolio page lists 24 companies. These include defense autonomy and AI businesses such as Shield AI, Scout AI and NODA AI; security firms such as Shift5, HiddenLayer, Corsha, Reality Defender and Credo AI; space companies such as Albedo, Starfish Space, Quindar and Portal Space Systems; and quantum computing company SEEQC. In April 2026 it made its first maritime investment, joining Ulysses' Series A led by Andreessen Horowitz's American Dynamism fund.

The unit's distinguishing feature is that Booz Allen is a systems integrator for federal agencies rather than a product manufacturer. Booz Allen Ventures pairs its capital with the firm's engineering staff and government relationships to help portfolio companies navigate the risks of public sector work and scale solutions for government missions. MacCarthy, who started the unit from Booz Allen's tech scouting team, sits on several portfolio boards, including Second Front Systems, Hidden Level, Latent AI and Credo AI.

Investment Thesis

“Booz Allen Ventures says it backs visionary startups building advanced technology and reindustrializing America. Its tech scouts look for early-stage, dual-use companies in AI, defense tech, deep tech, cybersecurity and reindustrialization, and the unit invests capital while bringing in Booz Allen's engineering expertise to put the technology to work on government missions. Brian MacCarthy has framed the mandate around speed for national defense, saying it requires fast, powerful technology solutions that deliver outcomes when they are needed most. Booz Allen also tied the 2025 expansion to keeping pace with Chinese investment in AI, manufacturing, quantum and cybersecurity.”

Fund History

Booz Allen Ventures invests from a corporate capital commitment rather than an externally raised fund, and no Form D filings under its name appear in SEC full-text search. The commitment was $100 million at the 2022 launch and was raised to $300 million in July 2025. At that point the unit had backed 17 startups and planned 20 to 25 more over five years. MacCarthy's bio cites 18 investments, while the ventures page now lists 24 portfolio companies and states that 24 investments have been made. The pace of roughly five to six new companies a year since launch is consistent with that plan.
