About RTX Ventures

RTX Ventures is the corporate venture capital group of RTX, the aerospace and defense company formed in April 2020 by the merger of Raytheon Company and United Technologies' aerospace businesses. Washington Technology reported that a venture function existed before the merger and was formalized afterward. The unit was described as newly established in May 2022, when it announced its first investment, joining Hermeus' $100 million Series B to fund the Quarterhorse and Darkhorse hypersonic aircraft. RTX states that the unit invests in early-stage companies that will transform aerospace and defense, and that its investment carries access to RTX's resources alongside the capital.

Early releases framed four priority areas: secure and connected ecosystems, autonomy and artificial intelligence, power and propulsion, and precision sensing and effects. The current RTX Ventures page lists six: advanced manufacturing, autonomy and sensing, compute, data, analytics and code, propulsion and aviation, and space. Its portfolio list names 33 companies, including Hermeus, Impulse Space, Ursa Major, Hadrian, HawkEye 360, H55, Reliable Robotics, JetZero, Tomorrow.io and EnCharge AI. Deals announced in 2022 were minority stakes, including H55 (electric propulsion) and EpiSci (tactical autonomy).

The unit is distinctive for how directly its investments feed RTX programs. Global Corporate Venturing reported that portfolio companies Ursa Major and Forterra worked with Raytheon on DeepStrike, an autonomous mobile missile launcher for the US Army shown in March 2025. The same profile notes that the team works within export controls, classification requirements and long defense procurement cycles that most venture investors avoid, and that it looks for startups able to move from prototype to deployment within RTX programs.

Investment Thesis

“RTX says it invests in early-stage companies that will transform aerospace and defense, and that its capital lets founders tap the scale of RTX to accelerate growth. Its current focus areas are advanced manufacturing; autonomy and sensing; compute; data, analytics and code; propulsion and aviation; and space. At launch Daniel Ateya tied the first deal to national security, saying hypersonic technologies are of critical importance and that the unit backed a company with a bold plan in that space. The working test, as reported by Global Corporate Venturing, is whether a dual-use technology can transition from prototype to deployment within Raytheon, Pratt & Whitney or Collins Aerospace programs.”

Fund History

RTX has not published a fund size or capital commitment for RTX Ventures, and no Form D filings under the RTX Ventures name appear in SEC full-text search, consistent with investing from RTX's balance sheet rather than a pooled fund. Deal pace is visible through announcements: the first investment was Hermeus in May 2022, followed that year by VerdeGo Aero in July, H55 in October and EpiSci in December. The unit's own portfolio page now lists 33 companies, so the unit has averaged roughly eight new companies a year since launch. Investments are typically minority stakes taken as a participant in rounds led by others.
