About Sanofi Ventures

Sanofi Ventures is the corporate venture capital arm of Sanofi, which describes it as an entry point to the innovation ecosystem for the company. It has invested since 2012 and runs from offices at 450 Water Street in Cambridge, Massachusetts and on Avenue de la Grande Armee in Paris. In September 2025 Sanofi committed an additional $625 million over multiple years, lifting the evergreen fund's assets under management to more than $1.4 billion.

The fund invests in biotech and AI and digital health companies focused on helping patients and transforming the practice of medicine. Its approach page lists rare diseases, immunology and inflammation, oncology, cell and gene therapy, vaccines, and digital health and data science, and the 2025 announcement said the fund would stay focused on Sanofi's priority areas of immunology, rare diseases, neurology and vaccines. It leads investments from seed through crossover, takes board seats and participates in IPOs. In 2022 it closed 10 investments, about 80 percent in biotherapeutics and 20 percent in digital health. Portfolio companies include Kymera Therapeutics, Fulcrum Therapeutics, Epicrispr Biotechnologies, Evidation, Aetion and Science 37.

The strategic logic is timing. Sanofi Ventures invests in early science before companies are ready for a traditional partnership or acquisition, which positions Sanofi's business development and M&A teams to engage as those companies mature. Portfolio companies can get selected access to Sanofi expertise in preclinical and clinical development, regulatory affairs, data analytics, manufacturing, market access and commercialization. Sanofi reports that the fund has deployed more than $800 million across over 70 companies and had three realized exits in 2024 with a combined acquisition value of $3.25 billion.

Investment Thesis

“Sanofi Ventures says it invests in top-tier biotech and digital health companies that focus on helping patients and transforming the practice of medicine. It aims to back early-stage science and technology before companies are ready for traditional partnering, building relationships that Sanofi's business development and M&A teams can draw on later. The fund presents itself as a stage-flexible lead investor, from seed through crossover rounds and IPO participation. Managing director Jason Hafler said in 2025 that the larger commitment lets the fund deepen its role as a strategic investor in breakthrough science and digital innovation, and Sanofi framed the capital as filling a gap at a time when early-stage biotech funding had become more limited.”
