Horizons Ventures does not raise conventional blind-pool funds. Solina Chau and Debbie Chang started the vehicle in 2002 to deploy private capital, and Li Ka-shing came in as an investor about two years later; the operation was incorporated in Hong Kong in 2006. Published accounts put deployment at more than $470 million across over 80 technology companies, with individual checks typically between $1 million and $20 million and at least 28 investments each in the United States and Israel since 2006.
The deal record runs from a $15.5 million Series B in Siri around the turn of 2010 through Summly in 2011, a $2.3 million round in Wibbitz and a stake in Ginger Software in 2012, BitPay in 2013, Zoom's $30 million Series C in February 2015, Impossible Foods' $108 million Series D later that year, a $55 million Series A led in Blockstream and a commitment to Expa in 2016, and the AlipayHK venture with Alibaba in September 2017. Facebook, Slack and Spotify were held through the Li Ka Shing Foundation.
