The Most Active VC Firms in 2026, by New Funds Filed with the SEC

244 venture firms ranked by one number nobody self-reports: how many new fund vehicles each one filed with the SEC on Form D between September 26, 2024 and September 25, 2026. 724 vehicles in all, every one linked to its filing on EDGAR.

Deal counts depend on what firms announce. A Form D is filed whether or not a firm says a word, so this is the public record of who is raising right now. Andreessen Horowitz leads with 36 new vehicles; General Catalyst filed most recently, on Sep 25, 2026.

Deal-by-deal programs, listed separately

These 20 investors filed the most entities of anyone, but at least two-thirds of their vehicles are single-deal: SPVs, co-invests, syndicate series, or one LLC per company. That is a different business from raising a fund, so they are shown here without a rank rather than mixed into the table above.

How this ranking works

The metric. New fund vehicles filed: original (non-amendment) SEC Form D filings in the trailing 24 months of warehouse coverage. Feeders, parallel funds and single-company vehicles each file their own Form D and each count as one.

Who is counted. Published VC Beast firm profiles matched to at least one original filing in the window by the Form D snapshot method (lib/form-d/firm-form-d.json). Duplicate profiles collapse to one. A filing counts for a firm only when the vehicle's name matches the firm's own naming and the filing lists the firm's address, general partner or principals, so third-party feeders that borrow a firm's name are left out. Firms the matcher could not tie to a filing with confidence are not on this page at all; absence here is not evidence a firm is not raising.

Ties and segments. More vehicles in the last 12 months, then the more recent latest filing, then name. A firm with three or more vehicles of which at least two-thirds are single-deal entities (names carrying SPV, Co-Invest, Syndicate, Series or SAFE, or an LLC with no fund word in its name) is listed separately as a deal-by-deal program and is not ranked. Code-named limited partnerships are not caught by that rule, so a firm that files its single-company vehicles as L.P.s under code names reads as a fund manager here.

What plays no part. Third-party access funds and SPV platforms are excluded by the snapshot. Amounts are not used. Sponsorship, Archstone and the claim status of a profile play no part.

The ranking is generated by code from a committed snapshot of the filings, and a test in our build checks that the published table matches a fresh run on the same data. Source: SEC Form D filings, sec_form_d warehouse (pooled investment funds), coverage through September 25, 2026. Frequently Asked Questions

Which VC firms are the most active in 2026?

By new fund vehicles filed with the SEC between September 26, 2024 and September 25, 2026, the ten most active are Andreessen Horowitz (36), Lightspeed Venture Partners (27), Bessemer Venture Partners (23), General Catalyst (19), Thrive Capital (19), Menlo Ventures (17), Summit Partners (17), Coatue Management (16), Accel (14) and Quiet Capital (14). The count is original Form D filings, so it measures how often a firm formed a new vehicle, not how much it raised.

Is this the number of deals each firm did?

No. Deal counts come from press releases and databases that depend on what firms choose to announce. This ranking uses the public record instead: a firm files Form D with the SEC when it raises a new fund, feeder, parallel fund or single-company vehicle, usually within 15 days of the first sale. Of the 244 ranked firms, 174 filed at least one new vehicle since September 25, 2025.

Why are some very active investors listed separately?

Gaingels filed 45 vehicles in the window, more than any fund manager, but nearly all of them are single-company entities. A syndicate that forms one LLC per deal would sit above every fund manager on a raw count, so firms whose vehicles are at least two-thirds single-deal entities are listed as deal-by-deal programs on their own, without a rank.

Why does the ranking not show how much each firm raised?

The largest firms file their offering size as Indefinite and $0 sold, while smaller firms report full figures. An amount column would rank disclosure habits, not fundraising, so the page counts vehicles and shows the latest filing date instead.

How often is this updated?

The ranking is rebuilt from our warehouse of SEC Form D filings by pooled investment funds; this version covers filings through September 25, 2026. Each firm's own profile carries the same filings with their dates, and the Form D Radar tracks new filings as they arrive.
