The Top Venture Capital Firms in 2026, Ranked
24 firms in one sortable table: assets under management as publicly reported, stage and headquarters, and a column no other list carries: how many new fund vehicles each firm filed with the SEC on Form D in the last 24 months, and when it last filed.
AUM tells you how big a firm is. The filings tell you whether it is raising right now. Sort by either, and every firm links to its full profile in our directory.

AUM figures are approximate, compiled from public reporting; firms marked — do not disclose. SEC vehicles counts each fund entity (including feeders, parallel funds and SPVs) with an original Form D filing in the trailing 24 months. Click any firm for its full directory profile.
SEC columns: original Form D filings from September 26, 2024 to September 25, 2026. Latest filing is the most recent original filing since July 1, 2024.
What the SEC filings show
Across the 24 firms, we matched 240 new fund vehicles filed between September 26, 2024 and September 25, 2026.
22 of 24 firms filed a new vehicle in 2026
The flagship funds are in the filings. Andreessen Horowitz filed Fund X (AI Applications and AI Infrastructure) and LSV Fund V in January; Sequoia Capital filed Venture Fund XIX and Seed Fund VI in March; General Catalyst filed Group XIII in March; Index Ventures filed Ventures XIII and Growth VII in May and June; Greylock filed Greylock 18 in June; Accel filed Accel 17, Growth Fund 8, India 9 and London 9 on the same day in August; Bessemer filed Venture Partners XIII and Century Fund III in September. The firms with no new vehicle so far in 2026: Felicis Ventures and Forerunner Ventures.
Andreessen Horowitz filed the most vehicles: 36
Andreessen Horowitz filed 36 new vehicles in the window, 24 of them in 2026: flagship funds, their B-side parallel funds, and single-purpose vehicles filed under code names at the firm's Sand Hill Road address. A high count reflects how a firm structures its capital as much as how much it raised, so read this column as a sign of activity, not size.
Tiger Global filed 2 new vehicles
Tiger Global's only original filings in the window are Private Investment Partners XVII and its feeder, both in March 2026. Its hedge funds appear only as annual amendments. That is the filing trail of a firm that has pulled back from the 2021 pace, next to multi-stage platforms filing a new vehicle every few weeks.
The largest firms do not disclose how much they raised
Sequoia, Andreessen Horowitz, General Catalyst, Tiger Global, Greylock, NEA and Index file their flagship funds with the offering size marked Indefinite and $0 sold, while smaller firms report full figures. That is why this table counts vehicles and shows the latest filing date rather than a dollar amount: an amount column would rank disclosure habits, not fundraising.
How this ranking works
Every column is something you can check. AUM is the figure each firm or its regulatory filings report publicly, rounded; firms that do not disclose show a dash. Stage and HQ come from the firm's profile in the VC Beast directory. SEC vehicles (24 mo) counts the fund entities each firm filed an original Form D for between September 26, 2024 and September 25, 2026, and Latest filing is the date of its most recent original filing. We use these as a fundraising-activity signal: a new Form D is the earliest public evidence a firm is raising a vehicle.
The filings come from our warehouse of SEC Form D filings by pooled investment funds, which starts on July 1, 2024 and runs to September 25, 2026. A filing counts for a firm only when the fund's name matches the firm's own naming and the filing lists the firm's office address, general partner or principals, so third-party feeder funds and SPV platforms that borrow a firm's name are excluded. Amendments are not counted. Feeders, parallel funds and SPVs each file separately and each count as one vehicle. We do not show amounts raised because the largest firms file their offering size as Indefinite.
The order is our editorial judgment across what the table shows: scale, whether the firm is actively raising, and how much of the stage range it covers. It is a map, not a verdict: the right firm for a seed-stage AI startup is the wrong firm for a Series B e-commerce company. Boston & London
Boston (General Catalyst, Battery, Flybridge, Pillar, Underscore) is the life-sciences capital of venture. London (Index, Accel London, Atomico, Balderton, LocalGlobe) is the gateway to European venture and the world's fintech hub.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the best early-stage VC firms by deal volume?
This ranking does not publish a per-firm deal count, because no public source reports one consistently. What it does publish is stage focus and, from SEC Form D filings, how many new fund vehicles each firm filed in the last 24 months. Read the stage column first: Benchmark, First Round Capital, Union Square Ventures and Forerunner Ventures are the dedicated seed-to-Series-A firms here, while multi-stage platforms such as Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital and Lightspeed write far more cheques in total but across every stage. Then check the SEC vehicles column: a firm that filed a new seed or early-stage fund recently, such as Sequoia's Seed Fund VI or First Round Capital X, has fresh capital to deploy. The deciding criterion is that volume and selectivity trade off: a high-volume seed programme gives you a better chance of a cheque, while a small partnership like Benchmark gives you far more partner attention per company.
What are the best venture capital firms for tech startups?
Nearly every firm in this table invests in technology, so the useful cut is stage and specialism rather than a general ranking. For a first cheque, Benchmark, First Round Capital and Union Square Ventures are the seed-to-Series-A specialists. For enterprise and infrastructure software, Accel, Lightspeed, Bessemer Venture Partners and Battery Ventures. For growth rounds, Insight Partners, IVP and Coatue Management. The deciding criterion is matching the firm's stage focus to the round you are raising, because pitching a seed deal to a growth fund wastes both sides' time no matter how highly the firm ranks.
What is a Form D, and why does it show a VC firm is raising?
Form D is the notice a private fund files with the SEC within 15 days of its first sale of interests under Regulation D. Every new venture fund, feeder, parallel fund and SPV that takes outside money files one, so a new Form D is the earliest public evidence that a firm has started raising a vehicle. It is a signal of activity, not of size: the largest firms usually mark the offering amount as Indefinite, and a single fundraise often produces several filings for its feeder and parallel entities.
